Travel to Utila

The main airport in Honduras is San Pedro Sula. For cheap flights from the United States to San Pedro Sula you can look at TACA Airlines for flights. TACA or their partner airlines fly many major cities including: Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Fr. Worth, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, New York, Chicago and Boston. If you are coming from other states within the USA or from outside the United States it is best to fly via Miami using American Airlines or Houston using Continental Airlines to San Pedro Sula . Continental also fly direct to Roatan but we are having major problems with the local airlines coming from Roatan, Atlantic have stopped running the direct flight on Saturdays and the normal scheduled flights go via La Ceiba and do not get into La Ceiba in time to make the connection for Utila unless you are there in time to catch the flight from Roatan to Utila which leaves at 11.00 am. The only other option is a private charter and they have very limited luggage capacity. So we would suggest that San Pedro Sula is the safest option.

From San Pedro Sula you will take a short 30 minute flight to La Ceiba, located on the Caribbean coast of Honduras . Then you will take an even shorter 10 minute flight from La Ceiba to Utila. There are two different airlines that fly this route SOSA & Atlantic . They both fly at similar times - between 6:30am and 7:30am and then again at around 3:30pm . The cost of a round trip from San Pedro Sula to Utila is aproximately $200.00 USD. It is possible for us to book these flights for you.  Check current exchange rate.  PLEASE NOTE: In order to get to Utila the same day you must be in San Pedro by 1.00 pm as the flight from San Pedro to La Ceiba leaves at around 2.00 pm to connect with the flight from La Ceiba to Utila at 3.30 pm.  If you cannot get to San Pedro in time then you can spend the night in San Pedro and we can recommend a hotel with airport service. The local flights do not come into Utila on a Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday.

From La Ceiba you can also take the ferry to Utila. The Utila Princess departs at 9:00am and the last ferry departs 4:00pm . It is about a one hour journey.  During low season there is only one ferry per day at 4.00 pm. The cost of a one-way ticket on the ferry is approximately $15.

If you are coming from Roatan and wish to use the ferry you have to go via La Ceiba. The Galaxy leaves Roatan for La Ceiba at 7.00 am and 2.00 pm and the trip is 1 hour and 30 minutes. The same dock in La Ceiba is used by both the Utila Princess and the Roatan Galaxy.
